One of the biggest hits of the year has been Deadpool, defying and exceeding expectations at the box office and wowing critics and audiences alike. We've already seen a bit of a glimpse behind the scenes as to how they brought the comic book character to life with some impressive visual effects. Now we have a featurette that briefly shows off how one of the practical elements of the movie was created, and it's an important one: Deadpool's mask.

Check out the Deadpool featurette after the jump.

It's not extremely in-depth about the creation of the mask, though I suppose there's not much to say beyond the fact that it was sculpted and created for Ryan Reynolds to wear. The most fascinating part of the featurette is seeing the various subtle changes in the eye designs, making sure to get the mask just right. Plus, it's cool to see that there were some practical (and removable) eyes used for the mask rather than always being added in post-production digitally.

Based upon Marvel Comics' most unconventional anti-hero, DEADPOOL tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

Deadpool is available on Digital HD right now and hits Blu-Ray and DVD early next month on May 10.
