'Cloudy 2: Revenge Of The Leftovers' Voice Cast Adds Terry Crews, Plot Info Revealed

Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs was a great surprise, a fun and very well-animated film that stands as one of the better kids' films released in the last few years. (And therefore is also a good watch for adults.) While Cloudy directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are only producing the sequel Cloudy 2: Revenge of the Leftovers, they've handed off directorial duties to Cody Cameron (story artist on Cloudy) and Kris Pearn (head of story on the first film), who are working from a script by John Francis Daley & Jonathan Goldstein and Erica Rivinoja.

The directorial change isn't the only big one happening, however, as Mr. T, who voiced the intense, enthusiastic town cop Earl, will not be heard this time. The character does return, however, voiced by Terry Crews. We've got some more cast info and a lot of story details below.

EW offers this synopsis for the film:

Live Corp has been charged with cleaning up the island after Flint's contraption that turned water into food led to a mess of huge pancakes, pizza slices and, of course, meatballs garnishing the pulverized town in the original film. But in the sequel, the machine is still sputtering away somewhere — only now it's pumping out living pickles, a walking, gibberish-talking strawberry named Barry, and creatures like the giant, french-fry-legged bacon cheesespider, which lords over the abandon town like a massive cholesterol-spiking tarantula.

Returning cast members and characters include Bill Hader as inventor Flint Lockwood; Anna Faris as weather girl Sam Sparks; James Caan as Flint's father; Andy Samberg as local personality "Baby" Brent; Neil Patrick Harris as Steve the monkey; and Benjamin Bratt as Sam's cameraman Manny.

EW explains that another recent cast addition, Kristen Schaal (The Daily Show) voices Barb, referred to as "the super-Steve... an orangutan with a human brain inside her monkey brain — like a terducken." Barb's owner is new character Chester V (Will Forte), "a world-famous super-inventor... the head of the Live Corp Company, which is kind of like Apple meets Google, meets every sort of advanced company," says producer Kirk Bodyfelt. "And as head of the company, he's Steve Jobs, Richard Branson and Indiana Jones rolled into one."

The producer also explains the creatures menacing the characters this time out, saying "magically, every creature is a combination of a food item and an animal that results in just a cringeworthy pun."

Sony Pictures Animation has Cloudy 2: Revenge of the Leftovers set for a 3D release on February 7, 2014.
