ant-man and the wasp character posters

The fate of Janet van Dyne remained a mystery for most of 2015’s Ant-Man, with the original Wasp and Hank Pym’s wife presumed dead after being lost in the Quantum Realm. But then Michelle Pfeiffer (Disney’s apparent secret ingredient for a lot of its sequels) was cast in Ant-Man and the Wasp, with the news that she would be playing Janet. But the character has remained out of sight for most of the trailers, and we didn’t expect to get a glimpse of her until the movie arrived later this summer. Which is why these new Ant-Man and the Wasp character posters are such a pleasant surprise — not only does Pfeiffer’s Janet van Dyne get her own poster, she also appears in (a very battle-worn) costume.

Take a look at the new Ant-Man and the Wasp character posters below.

Along with Hannah John-Kamen‘s villainous Ghost, I assumed that we wouldn’t see Michelle Pfeiffer until well into the running time of Ant-Man and the Wasp, as part of some big reveal or twist. But Marvel keeps surprising me, releasing first look at a white-haired, cloaked Pfeiffer as Janet van Dyne in very own character poster.

The secret’s out! Michelle Pfeiffer looks fabulous! Everyone else looks great too, I guess. Pfeiffer wears a torn, old cloak over her original Wasp costume, suggesting that she has survived and been stuck in the Quantum Realm for quite some time.

Other than Pfeiffer’s reveal as Janet van Dyne, the other posters don’t reveal much about the film, featuring a simple red and white background with miniscule figures of Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man and Evangeline Lilly’s Wasp flying about.

Peyton Reed returns to direct Ant-Man and the Wasp, which stars Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Peña, Walton Goggins, Bobby Cannavale, Judy Greer, Tip “T.I.” Harris, David Dastmalchian, Hannah John-Kamen, Abby Ryder-Fortson, Randall Park, Michelle Pfeiffer, Laurence Fishburne, and Michael Douglas.

Ant-Man and the Wasp opens in theaters on July 6, 2018.

Scott Lang is grappling with the consequences of his choices as both a superhero and a father. Approached by Hope van Dyne and Dr. Hank Pym, Lang must once again don the Ant-Man suit and fight alongside the Wasp. The urgent mission soon leads to secret revelations from the past as the dynamic duo finds itself in an epic battle against a powerful new enemy.
