'American Horror Story' Season 6 Drops A Bunch Of Creepy, Cryptic Teasers

Each season of FX's American Horror Story revolves around a theme, whether it's season 1's "Murder House," season 2's "Asylum," season 3's "Coven," season 4's "Freak Show," or season 5's "Hotel." But the show likes to toy with its audience whenever possible, and so it's dragging out the big reveal of the theme for season 6.

Of course, if you're willing to sit back and be patient, FX is bound to unveil the new American Horror Story subtitle soon. But where's the fun in that? If you'd like to guess at what the theme of the next run of episodes could be, the network has dropped some American Horror Story season 6 teasers that might offer some clues. Watch them below.

The American Horror Story season 6 teasers went up on Snapchat, but a nice fan compiled them all into a Twitter-friendly video for those of us (me) who are too old to understand Snapchat.

FX's hit horror series always kicks off its marketing campaign with a bunch of cryptic teasers like these. They very often provide clues about the plotlines to come, but are really more about establishing a tone and a theme than about explaining the story. The American Horror Story season 6 teasers suggest we're headed to some kind of farm or rural area this year, and that a creepy baby will somehow be involved. There are shades of The Texas Chain Saw MassacreThe Hills Have Eyes, and other horror classics. If you're an American Horror Story fan, now is the time to start speculating wildly in the comments.

We do know that Lady Gaga will return this year (we even get a glimpse of her in one of the teasers, as a centipede crawls all over her pale face), along with Evan PetersDenis O'HareMatt BomerAngela Bassett, and more. The new season will be set mostly in the present, but with "echoes of the past" according to FX's John Landgraf. One popular fan theory going around is that the show will pick up with Michael, the evil baby from the end of season 1, while another rumor suggests the Slender Man could factor in somehow. But again, that's just speculation for now, since American Horror Story hasn't officially revealed much of anything.

In typical Ryan Murphy fashion, American Horror Story went off the rails pretty quickly. A show can only drop so many shocking twists before they start to get boring, especially when they seem more driven by a desire to surprise than any organic narrative or character developments. But moment to moment, American Horror Story can still be tons of fun. The show has a knack for striking visuals and colorful characters. And that opening theme still sends a chill down my spine. It'll never not sound creepy. American Horror Story season 6 premieres September 14, which is a bit earlier than usual. We're sure to learn much, much more about the new season in the coming weeks, so watch this space.
