Fox has been doing its part to keep medical dramas alive with "The Resident." The popular series is coming back this fall for its fifth season, and those who are looking forward to getting back in the mix with the staff at Chastain Memorial Hospital don't have long to wait. But for those looking to prepare a bit, we've got it covered.

"The Resident" is, most basically, a medical drama. Entering its fifth season, the show centers on the doctors and nurses at Chastain Memorial Hospital. These individuals face personal and professional challenges and fight for their patients' health along the way. The show is not afraid to tackle real-life stuff either, as season 4 brought the Covid crisis into the mix.

Here is the synopsis for "The Resident" season 5 premiere, titled "Da Da."

An attack by cyber criminals sends the Chastain ER into a tailspin and Kit tries to figure out whether or not to pay the ransom. The Raptor deals with a personal connection to the patients brought into the ER during the attack, leaving them all vulnerable. Meanwhile, Conrad works on balancing life as a new dad, and Devon and Leela debate taking the next step in their relationship in the all-new "Da Da" season premiere episode of THE RESIDENT.

The core fast for the show will return in "The Resident" season 5. This includes Matt Czuchry as Conrad Hawkins, Bruce Greenwood as Dr. Randolph Bell, Manish Dayal as Devon Pravesh, Emily VanCamp as Nicolette Nevin, Malcolm-Jamal Warner as Dr. AJ Austin, Jane Leeves as Dr. Kit Voss, Morris Chestnut as Dr. Barrett Cain, Jessica Lucas as Billie Sutton and Anuja Joshi as Dr. Leela Devi. Shaunette Renée Wilson's Mina Okafor will not return, however, following her departure in season 4. Chestnut will also be appearing less frequently as he is set to star in "Our Kind of People" for Fox as well.
