SXSW 2021 Unveils Full Feature Film Line-Up, All Available For Online Viewing
This year's South by Southwest Film Festival is going virtual. The SXSW 2021 film festival has unveiled its full line-up, including documentaries on Selma Blair and Demi Lovato, and films like Here Before directed by Stacey Gregg and Kelley Kali's I'm Fine (Thanks For Asking) competing in the Narrative Feature section. The selection will be available online for viewing to everyone.
The full SXSW 2021 line-up has been announced for the 28th edition of the Austin, Texas-based film festiva. This year, the entire program — which includes 75 features total, including 57 world premieres, 3 international premieres, and more — will be online for the public and the press.
"It's been a year unlike any we've experienced, first marked by the cancellation of SXSW 2020," said SXSW's director of film Janet Pierson, referring to last year's canceled SXSW, which was widely seen as one of the first film festival casualties of the pandemic. "We feel privileged to have been able to pivot to SXSW Online and present a fantastic treasure trove of programming, including a pared down and wonderful selection of films that we know will delight, entertain and move our attendees."
Highlights from the Narrative Feature Competition include Here Before, I'm Fine (Thanks for Asking), Islands directed by Martin Edralin, Our Father directed by Bradley Grant Smith, Potato Dreams of America directed by Wes Hurley, and more. And this year's documentaries center around some high-profile celebritiies like Introducing, Selma Blair directed by Rachel Fleit, and Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil directed by Michael D. Ratner, the latter of which will be a headliner for the festival.
SXSW 2021, which will run from March 12-20, 2021, will launch seven films at a time in 2-hour increments from 10:00 A.M. – 8:00 P.M. CT, with most of the films launching during the first three days of the event. Once a film is available, it remains available on-demand until the event ends, or it reaches "audience capacity."
