Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards And Annie Awards Nominations Announced

Sound the trumpet – awards season is upon us! There is no escape from awards season – you can run but you can't hide from the glut of critic societies and other organizations announcing movie award winners and nominees as the year comes to a close. Just recently, the Los Angeles Film Critics Association announced their winners for the best films and performances of the year, and the Annie Awards have announced their nominations for the best animated material of 2017. Get the full lists of the Los Angeles Film Critics Association award winners and the Annie Award nominees below.

Every year, the wonderful world of film becomes tantamount to a team sport as critic orgs and more pick and choose winners for the best of the year. As always, it's important to remember that award winning is subjective – just because a film you may cherish is overlooked come awards season, it doesn't mean the film is a dud. You're allowed to herald whatever movie you may see fit, folks. Instead, award season is an excuse to celebrate a specific group of films. The important thing is to have fun. In other words, don't take this stuff too seriously.

The Los Angeles Film Critics Association gathered over the weekend and picked their winners for the best in film for 2017. Interestingly enough, unlike most other awards, LAFCA also announces a runner-up to go along with the winner. This year, Luca Guadagnino's highly praised romantic drama Call Me By Your Name took home the top honor of Best Picture of the Year, with Sean Baker's fantastic, heartbreaking The Florida Project coming in runner-up. Other winners include Jordan Peele, taking home Best Screenplay for Get Out, Sally Hawkins landing Best Actress for The Shape of Water and Lady Bird director Greta Gerwig taking home the New Generation award. The full list of winners is below. The 43rd annual Los Angeles Film Critics Association awards ceremony will be held Saturday, January 13, 2018. Max von Sydow will receive the 2017 Career Achievement Award.
