'Deadpool 2': What Creative Differences Led To Director Tim Miller's Exit?

Over the weekend, Deadpool fans had a bombshell dropped on them when we learned director Tim Miller would no longer be at the helm of the sequel. Creative differences were cited as the reason for Tim Miller's exit, mainly that his vision for the movie didn't line up with what producer and leading man Ryan Reynolds had envisioned for Deadpool 2. Now we have some specific details as to what exactly Miller and Reynolds disagreed on.

Find out about the Deadpool 2 creative differences after the jump.

The Wrap reports that the sequel to Deadpool had actually been in the works before the first movie was even in front of cameras. However, by the time the sequel was officially announced this past April at CinemaCon, Tim Miller was already starting to have some creative disagreements not only with Ryan Reynolds, but with writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

What it comes down to is that Reynolds, Reese and Wernick wanted a sequel that was very much like the first movie. They wanted the raunchy comedy, the spunky attitude and smaller scale action on par with the first film. However, Tim Miller wanted something more stylized on the scale of the big budget superhero movies. The report says Miller's vision for the sequel would have cost three times as much as the original, which had a budget of $58 million. However, reporter Steven Weintraub over at Collider responded with this tidbit on Twitter:

Maybe the numbers aren't accurate, but it does sound like Miller did have a much different vision in mind from the rest of the creative team. One of the sources for the story went so far as to say, "There were two totally different movies on the table, and one of them just wasn't Deadpool." In the end, it was Reynolds, Reese and Wernick that came out on top. After all, you can't do Deadpool without the guy who got so many people to believe in the character to begin with.

There's also the matter of casting Cable, which was said to be a source of contention between Tim Miller and some of the other key players behind the scenes. He reportedly wanted Kyle Chandler in the role, but Ryan Reynolds wasn't on board. That was like just one of several disagreements that led to the eventual fallout

We may never really know the full story as to why Tim Miller left Deadpool 2, but hopefully the situation will not result in a sequel that disappoints fans. Production is expected to begin sometime next year with a presumed release date sometime in 2018, but they're still working on locking down a cast, including finding someone to play Domino. Hopefully we'll have some good news on the Deadpool 2 front very soon.
