The Best Movies Coming To Netflix In October 2016

It's that time again. The full list of movies coming to Netflix next month (in the United States) has been released, which means it's time for us to sift through the titles and pick out everything that you should prioritize. This batch includes some Best Picture winners, a John Hughes classic, the most recent seasons of The CW's DC Comics TV shows, a brand new movie from director Christopher Guest and much more.

Ghost Town

Ricky Gervais is one of those comedians that people either love or hate. But even if you don't like the comedy of Ricky Gervias, I implore you to give Ghost Town a chance. This one isn't written or directed by Gervais, but instead comes from director David Koepp, the writer of Jurassic Park, who also wrote the screenplay with Premium Rush writer John Kamps. It's a very touching, funny romantic comedy that puts an interesting twist on the usual "unfinished business" element of afterlife stories. I also think it has one of the best closing lines to a movie ever.Titanic

Titanic

Once the highest grossing movie in the world (until James Cameron unseated himself with Avatar), Titanic is finally coming to Netflix. This was a movie that required you to switch VHS tapes, and even DVD discs at one point. But now you can sit and watch it without having to get up and swap anything out. The movie is a bit cheesy for sure, but it's still a rather impressive production. Plus, it's always fun to go back and look at the early work of stars like Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. Plus, where else can you hear Billy Zane say "sweet pea" in the most smarmy way possible?

Breaking the fourth wall

Ferris Bueller's Day Off

The John Hughes classic from 1986 is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, so there's no better time for you to stream it into your home. My favorite John Hughes movie changes depending on what the most recent one I've seen is, but having watched it endlessly on a recorded video tape that my parents had, it's probably the only one where I could flawlessly recite the dialogue with it. Go back to a time when Charlie Sheen doing a load of drugs was just a character he played. Plus, don't forget the soundtrack for the movie is being sold for the first time ever this year.

Christopher Guest has a new movie. That should be all we have to say. The movie features plenty of Guest's finest collaborators including Jane Lynch, Parker Posey, Fred Willard, Ed Begley, Jr., Bob Balaban, Jennifer Coolidge and John Michael Higgins, not to mention new faces for Guest's movies including Zach Woods and Chris O'Dowd. If you need any more convincing than watching a new movie from the director of Best in Show and co-writer of This Is Spinal Tap, go watch the trailer right now.Kung Fu Panda 3 Trailer

Kung Fu Panda 3

Does anyone else think this animated franchise is sorely underrated? The third installment comes through as another solid entry, this time introducing us to Po's (Jack Black) real panda family, including his father (voiced by Bryan Cranston). One of the most impressive things about this franchise is the action. They're some of the most complex, gorgeous and exciting action sequences ever seen in an animated movie. Sure, the fights are unreal, but it's an animated movie, and this kind of fantastical kung fu is just awesome.

Quiz Show

Quiz Show

The movies that Robert Redford has directed in recent years have left something to be desired. But back in 1994, he was at the helm of a true story called Quiz Show. The combo of a legal and historical drama takes a look at how NBC rigged their popular game show Twenty One. John Turturro gives an outstanding performance that somehow didn't get an Oscar nomination, though Paul Scofield landed one for the movie, which was also nominated for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay. Ralph Fiennes also stars in the movie that's a must-see, if only because it features a somewhat rare acting appearance by Martin Scorsese.
