Disney's 'Moana' International Trailer Introduces Baby Moana

In June we shared with you the first trailer for Walt Disney Animation's next film Moana, which mostly focused on Dwayne Johnson's character, demigod Maui. A new international trailer hit the web last night, showing a completely different sequence from early in the film.

Fans in attendance at last year's D23 Expo will recognize this footage as an early version of it was shown off in Anaheim. The story at the center of this film has yet to suck me in, but this beautiful and poetic sequence has me very interested. Watch the Moana international trailer now, embedded after the jump.

As we learned at the D23 Ecpo, Maui isn't the only one Moana has a connection with. The filmmakers learned that the people of Maui have a very deep connection to the ocean, looking at the body of water as if they were a friend or person. And so the filmmakers illustrate this in the film quite literally. Moana's bond with the ocean is strong, and as a teenage girl, she still has the seashell she found as a baby, showing that she still has strong ties to this old friend.

Moana will feature the first South Pacific princess, voiced by newcomer Auli'i Carvalho. And as I mentioned previously, Dwayne Johnson. plays the demigod Maui. Directed by Ron Clements and John MuskerMoana follows a teenager (Cravalho) in ancient Oceania who sets out on a daring adventure to save her people, joining forces with the demi-god Maui (Johnson) along the way. The film features a script written by Zootopia scribe Jared Bush, sitcom and sketch comedy writer Pamela Ribon, and What We Do in the Shadows writer/director Taika Waititi as well as original music by Hamilton star and creator Lin-Manuel MirandaOpetaia Foa'i and Mark Mancina.

In the ancient South Pacific world of Oceania, Moana, a born navigator, sets sail in search of a fabled island. During her incredible journey, she teams up with her hero, the legendary demi-god Maui, to traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous sea creatures, breathtaking underworlds and ancient folklore.

Moana will hit theaters on November 23rd 2016.
