LOL: Stephen Colbert Gets Stumped In 'Lord Of The Rings' Trivia By Ryan Gosling's Mom
If you ever watched The Colbert Report, then you know that Stephen Colbert is a huge fan of the work of author J.R.R. Tolkien. Colbert knows every single bit of trivia about Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, The Silmarillion and more to the point that he can recite excerpts from the books. However, the Tolkien trivia master has finally been stumped...by Ryan Gosling's mother.
Ryan Gosling stopped by The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last night, along with Russell Crowe, to promote The Nice Guys hitting theaters next week. The actor brought with him a trivia question from his mother, and Colbert was not able to give the right answer. Hit the jump to see the Stephen Colbert Tolkien trivia challenge from Gosling's mother.
Here's Ryan Gosling on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last night:
So Colbert didn't know on what page the archway into the mines of Moria appeared. But are there any hardcore Tolkien fans out there who would have the answer to that question in her back pocket? After all, I'm a huge Star Wars fan, but I couldn't tell you at what exact time stamp that Luke first ignites his father's lightsaber or anything like that.
Since Colbert mentions that Gosling's mother didn't really like him until he did the Tolkien-off with James Franco on The Colbert Report, maybe she just wanted to mess with him a little bit. Plus, there are so many versions of Lord of the Rings out there, it would be nearly impossible to answer this question right. Honestly, I'm surprised Colbert didn't pretend that he knew by referencing the different versions of the book.
Anyway, if you need a reminder as to just how well-versed Colbert is in Tolkien trivia, here you go:
Did anyone out there know the answer to that insanely difficult, basically unfair question?
