'The Huntsman: Winter's War' Clips: Yep, Emily Blunt Is Still Riding A Polar Bear

The most important thing about The Huntsman: Winter's War is that there is at least one scene where Emily Blunt rides a polar bear. This was true when the first trailer arrived last month and it continued to be true when the second trailer arrived last week. This film seems to offer its fair share of pleasures for all kinds of people – the astonishingly handsome Chris Hemsworth strutting about with just enough chest exposed, the lovely Jessica Chastain kicking all kinds of ass in black leather, the incredible Charlize Theron vomiting black goo all over the place – but I'm buying a ticket because Emily Blunt is a literal ice queen who rides a fantasy polar bear. How did this movie gain access to the darkest corners of my brain?

Anyway, a batch of new The Huntsman: Winter's War clips have arrived and one of them is entirely about Emily Blunt and her polar bear. Be still, my pounding heart.

Look, you may not share my obsession with Emily Blunt riding a polar bear, but sure there's something in these clips that will grab your attention. I say this as someone who doesn't even like Snow White and the Huntsman very much – Winter's War looks completely insane and I'm increasingly drawn to it. Any movie that looks like it was adapted from a Dungeons & Dragons manual deserves a closer look. This is very much a sequel (and a prequel) to the first film, but hopefully it keeps what works about part one and jettisons everything else. This looks to be a bunch of silly fun, which is more than you can say for the leaden original.

If Emily Blunt riding a polar bear isn't your cup of tea, maybe the clip where Hemsworth, Chastain, and some of their Dwarven allies get trapped in a net will grab your attention. After all, there's just enough Time Bandits in there. If not that, then the clips featuring Blunt and Theron vamping it up and screaming at each other will surely do it for you. Forget about big action beats and set pieces. Watching these two talented ladies ham it up as wacky high fantasy villains is more exciting than anything else in the trailers.

Except for the polar bear. I hope it's in more than once scene.

The Huntsman: Winter's War opens on April 22, 2016. This is the feature debut of director Cedric Nicolas-Troyan, who was visual effects supervisor on Snow White and the Huntsman. If you want more attractive people in medieval fantasy garb, you can peruse the gallery of images below.
