'American Crime Story: The People V. O.J. Simpson' Trailer: "Nobody Gets Killed In Brentwood"
FX is following up the latest season of American Horror Story with a real-life American horror story. American Crime Story kicks off early next year with The People v. O.J. Simpson, starring Cuba Gooding Jr. as O.J. Simpson and John Travolta as defense attorney Robert Shapiro. The network has been dropping intriguing teasers for the past few months, and today we finally have our first full-length trailer.
The promo shows off more of the high-profile cast (which also includes Sarah Paulson as Marcia Clark, Courtney B. Vance as Johnnie Cochran, David Schwimmer as Robert Kardashian, and Selma Blair as Kris Jenner), a great many ridiculous wigs, and some familiar imagery of a white Bronco. American Crime Story is created by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski, who are executive producing along with American Horror Story creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk. The historical nature of the story means Murphy and Falchuk can't go full bore with their usual snarky, over-the-top sensibility, but it's not tough to see why they would be attracted to the Simpson saga in the first place. There's a lot of drama here, and plenty of opportunities for actors to scream or sob or act creepy.American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson premieres Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at 10 PM on FX. American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson, the first installment of the new limited series from prolific producer Ryan Murphy, will debut on FX in early 2016 with an all-star cast portraying the key figures in the infamous O.J. Simpson murder trial. The cast includes Cuba Gooding Jr. as O.J. Simpson, John Travolta as defense attorney Robert Shapiro, David Schwimmer as defense attorney Robert Kardashian, Sarah Paulson as prosecutor Marcia Clark, Courtney B. Vance as defense attorney Johnnie Cochran, and Bruce Greenwood as Los Angeles County District Attorney Gil Garcetti.
Based on the book The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson by Jeffrey Toobin, the limited series is a look at the O.J. Simpson trial told from the perspective of the lawyers. It explores the chaotic behind-the-scenes dealings and maneuvering on both sides of the court, and how a combination of prosecution overconfidence, defense shrewdness, and the LAPD's history with the city's African-American community gave a jury what it needed: reasonable doubt.
