WALL-E Gets Left Behind In 'The Martian' Trailer Mash-Up
Here at SlashFilm, one of the films we're looking forward to the most before the end of 2015 is The Martian, the adaptation of Andy Weir's book of the same name, directed by Alien and Gladiator helmer Ridley Scott. If you haven't seen the trailer, you can watch it right here. Or simply know that the film follows an astronaut (Matt Damon), who is left behind on Mars and is forced to figure out how to survive for four years until his crew can return to rescue him.
Some clever editor has taken footage from Pixar's sci-fi adventure WALL-E and cut it with the voiceover from the most recent trailer for The Martian, resulting in a survival story that is just as intense as it is adorable. Watch The Martian WALL-E trailer mash-up below!
Here's the trailer mash-up from YouTube user Tony Dolezal (via Uproxx):
The best trailer mash-ups take a movie and make it feel like something completely different, and that's exactly what this video does for Pixar's WALL-E. What is actually one of Pixar's more quiet films, at least for the first hour or so, is shaken up quite a bit when edited to the audio of The Martian trailer. It actually gets me more excited to see The Martian, but it also makes me want to watch WALL-E again right now.
By the way, if you happened to miss it, be sure to check out this fantastic promo video for The Martian featuring Neil deGrasse Tyson talking about the Ares 3 mission to Mars as if it's actually happening. It even gives some background on the missions that took mankind to Mars for the first time.
For those who want to see how this trailer mash-up matches up with the footage in the real trailer for The Martian, there's also a split-screen version to check out right here.
