While we wait to see what happens with Prometheus 2 and Alien 5, here’s a Ridley Scott space adventure we definitely know is coming in our near future. The Martian stars Matt Damon as astronaut Mark Watney, who’s presumed dead and left behind after a dust storm hits on Mars. But he’s very much alive, and now all he has to do is wait for rescue.
The problem is, help is 140 million miles and four years away — and he’s only got the resources to survive on Mars for a few weeks. As he puts it, he’s “gonna have to science the shit out of this.” Watch The Martian trailer after the jump.
Fox debuted the new The Martian trailer on YouTube.
The Martian arrives October 2. Jessica Chastain, Kate Mara, and Michael Peña play some of Watney’s crewmates, and Sean Bean, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Jeff Daniels, Donald Glover, and Kristen Wiig are among those watching from Earth. Drew Goddard wrote the script based on a book by Andy Weir.
