'Hotel Transylvania' TV Series Coming In 2017
It took three years to get from Hotel Transylvania to Hotel Transylvania 2. But soon, you'll be able to check into the monster-friendly five-star resort on a more regular basis. Sony Pictures Animation has announced they are developing a Hotel Transylvania TV series to debut in 2017. More details on the Hotel Transylvania TV series after the jump.
Directed by Genndy Tartakovsky, 2012's Hotel Transylvania followed a monsters-only resort run by Count Dracula (voiced by Adam Sandler). Much to his chagrin, his daugher Mavis (voiced by Selena Gomez) falls for an ordinary human traveler named Jonathan (voiced by Andy Samberg) who accidentally stumbles across the hotel.
The cinematic sequel, which is due out in September, picks up a little while later. The hotel has relaxed its no-humans policy, and Mavis and Jonathan have had a son who exhibits a worrying lack of vampire traits. Meanwhile, Dracula has to deal with the arrival of his father, Vlad (voiced by Mel Brooks).
TheWrap reports the Hotel Transylvania TV series will follow Dracula's daughter Mavis (and her friends) through her teen years. That suggests it'll take place either between the two movies, or before the events of the first one. It's unclear whether Gomez or any of her co-stars might reprise their roles for the show.
Said Sony Pictures Animation president Kristine Belson in a statement:
Audiences have embraced the world and characters of 'Hotel Transylvania,' so we are thrilled to be partnering with Nelvana to take them on new adventures, expanding on the teenage years of Mavis and her friends at the world-famous monster five star resort!
Sony Pictures Animation and Corus Entertainment's Nelvana Studio are teaming up for the project. SPA's Rick Mischel will executive produce along with Nelvana's Colin Bohm and Irene Weibel. Hotel Transylvania has yet to find a network home, but the current plan is to premiere it in early 2017. In the meantime, grown-ups can get their spooky hotel fix with FX's American Horror Story: Hotel, premiering this fall.
