Cool Stuff: Hot Toys Star Wars Stormtrooper Sixth Scale Figure
Sideshow Collectibles sent me a sample of Hot Toys' Star Wars Stormtrooper Sixth Scale Figure. Lets unbox this figure and take a look at whats inside the box. After the jump you will find photos of the Hot Toys Star Wars Stormtrooper Sixth Scale Figure, alongside my thoughts on the product.
When it was announced that Hot Toys had gotten the Star Wars license from Disney, many fanboys were instantly excited. The first figure introduced in the new Star Wars sixth scale figure line is a generic Stormtrooper, and it is very fitting as the Stormtrooper armor is so iconic to the franchise.

What's in the Box? The Stormtrooper Sixth Scale Figure stands approximately 30 cm tall (about 12 inches) and includes over 30 points of articulations. Hot Toys has included a bunch of accessories which gives you many variations in display, including seven interchangeable gloved palms: a pair of fists, relaxed palms, weapon gripped palms and one gesturing left palm. The armor includes a belt with leather holster, which can accommodate either the blaster rifle or blaster pistol (both of which are also included in the box). The figure also comes with a figure stand with Stormtrooper nameplate and Star Wars movie logo.
Thoughts: This 12 inch figure is beautiful, probably the best posable Stormtrooper figure ever produced. The Stormtrooper armor is faithfully recreated from Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope in every respect, including some of the more detailed fabric elements like the belt with leather holster and under suit (the holster was beautifully designed using magnets which makes it very easy to open and close). The head armor sculpt is specially hand-painted, and the details show.
I can't wait to see what Hot Toys does with this line, especially when they get to the human figures which I'm sure will have the fantastically uber-real head sculpts we have come to expect from the company. I'm not sure if its too much to wish for, but I hope they might also create some Star Wars vehicles and diorama elements. A sixth scale millennium Falcon is probably out of the question, but what about a tie fighter or X-wing?
My one criticism of this produce is about the figure stand. The grating looks perfect, but why didn't Hot Toys include a battery operated light up element from between the grates? Almost everyone I have shown this figure to asked if it lit up, almost like it was an expectation.
