'iZombie' Trailer: The CW Presents The Undead Veronica Mars
Leave it to The CW to make a TV show about a zombie that you'd brag to your friends about dating. Based on the DC Comic of the same name, iZombie is a show about a young woman named Liv (get it?), who is holding up pretty well despite being dead. Liv works with dead bodies, and which probably helps out when she gets hungry and needs to eat some brains. And her show, based on the first iZombie trailer, looks fairly entertaining, if also pretty familiar.
iZombie is the DC Comics show (well, actually drawn from a Vertigo Comics title — that imprint being a subset of DC) which has pulled less attention than other shows like Arrow and The Flash. That lesser attention is in part because this show draws on a more obscure book, and also because we hadn't seen anything to indicate the show's tone. Now we know: it's like Veronica Mars, with a bit of a whiff of the undead. Which we might have guessed, given the creators (Rob Thomas wrote and directed the pilot) but it helps to see it in action. Check out the iZombie trailer below.
Some elements there have been changed around from the original comic stories. In comics, the character was called Gwen, and she was a gravedigger — but in both the character can get flashbacks to another person's life by eating their brain and uses that ability to solve mysteries. So it's all close enough, I guess.
And if you're thinking "hey, didn't Warm Bodies already cover the Hot Zombie thing?" here's Rob Thomas to provide an answer, via THR:
The center of the show is a zombie you can fall in love with. A zombie you want to date. We were calling the show ZILFs. It helped me a lot that Warm Bodies had made it out in the universe and there was an example of a zombie you fall in love with. It gave us the confidence to say a zombie can be a hero of our show.
