'The Interview' Red-Band Trailer: James Franco And Seth Rogen Visit North Korea
Nestled in among all the family-friendly holiday releases and prestigious Oscar hopefuls this Christmas will be The Interview, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg's follow-up to This Is the End. Rogen does double duty as one of the film's leads, a TV producer named Aaron Rapoport who runs a popular celebrity tabloid TV show starring the charismatic Dave Skylark (James Franco).
In an attempt to get ambitious, the pair score a rare interview with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un (Randall Park) — and then quickly find themselves way in over their heads when they're recruited by CIA agent Lacey (Lizzy Caplan) to take him out. And she doesn't mean for drinks. Or to dinner. Watch The Interview red band (NSFW) trailer after the jump.
Not surprisingly, North Korea has not been terribly thrilled about the impending release of The Interview. No country wants to see a film about their current real-life leader getting killed. Of course, North Korea being North Korea, they made their point known by suggesting that "Obama should be careful in case the US military wants to kill him as well."
But those complaints have led to real changes in the film, both small and big. Among other things, we will now be denied the pleasure of a Raiders of the Lost Ark-style face-melting scene involving Kim Jong-un. Bummer.
The non-face-melting parts of the The Interview land in theaters December 25.
In the action-comedy The Interview, Dave Skylark (James Franco) and his producer Aaron Rapoport (Seth Rogen) run the popular celebrity tabloid TV show "Skylark Tonight." When they discover that North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un is a fan of the show, they land an interview with him in an attempt to legitimize themselves as journalists. As Dave and Aaron prepare to travel to Pyongyang, their plans change when the CIA recruits them, perhaps the two least-qualified men imaginable, to assassinate Kim Jong-un.
