Mike Colter Will Be The 'Halo' "Digital Feature" Star

Xbox Live is putting together two Halo projects. One counts Steven Spielberg as a producer, and will be the flagship series for the property on Xbox. (It could also hit Showtime.) The other — and the one we'll talk about below — is a "digital feature," similar to Halo 4: Forward Until Dawn. That is, it's essentially set to be a long movie that will be released episodically. Now this second Halo project has a star: Mike Colter, known to viewers of shows such as The Good Wife, The Following, and American Horror Story: Coven.

The Wrap reports that Colter will play "a surgically-enhanced super soldier," but one who is not Master Chief. Rather, Colter's character is Marlowe, "a rising star in a futuristic army who is troubled by aspects of the military industrial complex he inhabits. Approaching combat situations with caution and logic, he inspires loyalty in his fellow Spartans" as they engage in 26th century warfare.

Colter has also had roles in Men in Black 3 (above), Million Dollar Baby, Zero Dark Thirty, and Salt.

Sergio Mimica-Gezzan, a TV director who has also worked many times as Steven Spielberg's first assistant director, is directing the live-action project. Paul Scheuring (Prison Break) wrote the digital feature. 343 Industries, Xbox Entertainment Studios and Scott Free Productions are backing this particular incarnation of Halo, and Ridley Scott and Scott Free TV president David Zucker are exec producers.

Expect more details next month at E3, with a debut for the show likely to follow by the end of this year.
