Amazon Greenlights New Chris Carter Show 'The After' And 'Transparent' To Series

Earlier this year Amazon posted a new round of ten pilots, offering viewers the chance to check them all out before voting on ones they liked best. Five of the pilots were aimed at kids, with the other five geared towards adults. Now four of the five "adult" shows have been ordered to series. Two are particularly notable: the new Chris Carter show The After, and Transparent, in which Jeffrey Tambor plays a father who reveals a truth about his own life, and in so doing really changes the family dynamic.

Also getting orders are Bosch, and Mozart in the Jungle. Details on each is below.

Bosch is a cop drama based on Michael Connelly's book series, written by Eric Overmyer and Connelly. Titus Welliver (Argo, Lost) plays the main character, who is in pursuit of the killer of a teen boy while also dealing with a trial for allegedly murdering a suspected killer. Jim McKay directed; the rest of the cast includes Annie Wersching, Amy Price-Francis and Jamie Hector. The X-Files creator Chris Carter delivers The After, which follows "eight strangers thrown together by mysterious forces and who must help each other survive in a violent world that defies explanation." Carter directed the pilot; the cast features Aldis Hodge, Andrew Howard, Arielle Kebbel, Jamie Kennedy, Sharon Lawrence, Jaina Lee Ortiz, Adrian Pasdar and Louise Monot.Mozart in the Jungle is a dramedy based on a memoir by Blair Tindall; it's a behind the scenes look at a symphony. Roman Coppola (Moonrise Kingdom, The Darjeeling Limited) wrote with Jason Schwartzman and Alex Timbers (Peter and the Starcatcher on Broadway). Paul Weitz (About a Boy) directed; the cast includes Gael Garcia Bernal, Saffron Burrows, Lola Kirke, Malcom McDowell, Bernadette Peters and Peter Vack.Transparent is called "a dark comedy about an L.A. family with serious boundary issues," which is putting it lightly. It was written and directed by Jill Soloway (Six Feet Under and United States of Tara) with a cast that also includes Judith Light, Gaby Hoffmann, Amy Landecker and Jay Duplass.
