'Brick Mansions' Trailer: Paul Walker Takes On Dystopian Detroit In His Last Completed Film

Shortly before his death in November, Paul Walker wrapped shooting on Camille Delamarre's Brick Mansions. The film is now headed for an April release, and the first trailer has just landed.

A remake of the French thriller Banlieue 13 (known in the U.S. as District B13), Brick Mansions features Walker as an undercover cop who must team with an ex-con (David Belle) to take on a drug kingpin (RZA) in the most dangerous tenement in a dystopian Detroit. It looks a little like what might happen if Brian O'Connor was dropped into Dredd or The Raid. Watch the video after the jump.

Brick Mansions has been getting a lot of attention simply by virtue of being Walker's final completed film (he was halfway through shooting Fast & Furious 7 at the time of his death), but it looks like a fun little thriller in its own right. The best parts of the trailer, though, have little to do with Walker. As with the original, the parkour and fight scenes are what really sell this movie.

The film opens April 25.

Brick Mansions poster

In a dystopian Detroit, abandoned brick mansions left from better times now house only the most dangerous criminals. Unable to control the crime, the  police constructed a colossal containment wall around this area to protect the rest of the city.  For undercover cop Damien Collier (Paul Walker) every day is a battle against corruption.  For Lino (David Belle), every day is a fight to live an honest life. Their paths never should have crossed, but when drug kingpin, Tremaine (RZA) kidnaps Lino's girlfriend, Damien reluctantly accepts the help of the fearless ex-convict, and together they must stop a sinister plot to devastate the entire city. With stylized action featuring thrilling Parkour stunts (David Belle is the co-founder of this physical training discipline), Brick Mansions puts an entertaining twist on the action genre.
