George Clooney, Matt Damon And Bill Murray Rescue Art In 'The Monuments Men' UK Trailer
The Monuments Men, the new film from George Clooney about a group of guys from the art world recruited to save art from the ravages of Hitler's army, may have been pushed into 2014 to make time for effects work, but we can still get a good look at it now.
There's a lot of new footage in this trailer, much of it showing off the stellar supporting cast (including Bill Murray, John Goodman, Bob Balaban, and Cate Blanchett for starters) and in so doing supporting the illusion that this is an Ocean's movie transported to World War II. But there's probably all first act stuff, and as this trailer goes on there's a more serious spirit that comes to the fore.
Check out the UK trailer below.
The Monuments Men opens on February 7.
An unlikely World War II platoon is tasked by FDR with going into Germany to rescue artistic masterpieces from Nazi thieves and returning them to their rightful owners. It would be an impossible mission: with the art trapped behind enemy lines, and with the German army under orders to destroy everything as the Reich fell, how could these guys – seven museum directors, curators, and art historians, all more familiar with Michelangelo than the M-1 – possibly hope to succeed? But as the Monuments Men, as they were called, found themselves in a race against time to avoid the destruction of 1000 years of culture, they would risk their lives to protect and defend mankind's greatest achievements.
