'Oblivion' Director Joseph Kosinski Sets Up Thriller With 'Elysium' Financiers
Briefly: Christopher Cantwell and Christopher C. Rodgers, writers of the upcoming AMC series Halt & Catch Fire, have written a new action-thriller script that now has Oblivion and Tron Legacy director Joseph Kosinski set to direct. In fact, Kosinski came up with the story, and then had the screenwriting pair flesh out the script. (Similar to the manner in which Oblivion was developed.)
Providing the money will be Media Rights Capital, the same outfit that financed Elysium and that has been backing some of David Fincher's recent work, among many other projects.
We don't know anything about the story at this point, which is being kept quiet; there's not even a title. The one nugget of info is that this is designed as a "grounded action thriller," with that word "grounded" being key. It's not a word that really applies to either of Kosinski's other two features, which makes this sound like a bit of a departure for him.
This isn't likely to be Kosinski's next film; he's got Twilight Zone to make for Warner Bros, and is still developing other projects such as the next Tron movie and The Black Hole remake for Disney, and Archangels at New Regency. [Deadline]
