'Elysium' Extended Trailer: Matt Damon Saves The World
No doubt plenty of District 9 fans were sold on Elysium the moment they heard the words "directed by Neill Blomkamp." But moviegoers who need a little more convincing than that can feast their eyes on the new extended trailer, which clocks in at nearly four minutes long.
In the year 2159, society is divided into two very different classes. The wealthy reside their days on a gorgeous, comfortable space station called Elysium, while the poor toil away on ruined Earth below. Matt Damon stars as Max, one of the have-nots who attempts to bridge the gap between the two worlds when his circumstances grow desperate. Watch the video after the jump.
And speaking of that footage: Much of it is recycled from previous promos, but I believe there are a few new bits of footage scattered here and there.

Elysium opens August 9. Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, Alice Braga, and William Fichtner also star.
In the year 2159, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy, who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. The people of Earth are desperate to escape the planet's crime and poverty, and they critically need the state-of-the-art medical care available on Elysium – but some in Elysium will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve their citizens' luxurious lifestyle. The only man with the chance bring equality to these worlds is Max, an ordinary guy in desperate need to get to Elysium. With his life hanging in the balance, he reluctantly takes on a dangerous mission – one that pits him against Elysium's Secretary Delacourt and her hard-line forces – but if he succeeds, he could save not only his own life, but millions of people on Earth as well.
