Rumor: Morris Chestnut Playing Marvel's 'Black Panther?'

Marvel's Phase Two is ready to start next month, and with all those films lined up, fans have begun heavy speculation on what Phase Three will hold. It'll start on November 6, 2015 with Edgar Wright's Ant-Man. From there the possibilities include Doctor Strange, another Iron Man/Thor/Captain America sequel or maybe Black Panther. The latter has been rumored for several years, with screenplays and pitches apparently falling by the wayside as Marvel focused on other films.

The latest update concerns actor Morris Chestnut. Best known for Boyz N The Hood, American Horror Story and this year's Kick-Ass 2, Chestnut took to Twitter and Facebook Monday telling fans "It's time to get familiar with the Black Panther character!" Just as the Internet began to pick up on the hint, he deleted the Tweet and Facebook posts.

Latino Review and Comic Book Movie both documented the talk. Chestnut posted the following Black Panther cover on Twitter and Facebook with the aforementioned quote:Black Panther cover

The choice of cover is interesting, being as its an issue where Black Panther teams up with other members of the Marvel Universe. A possible Avengers 2 cameo?

However, the fact that he has since deleted the tweet/post suggests one of a few things happened.

  • Chestnut had a very encouraging meeting about playing the character, and his manager/agent/publicist told him to take that down immediately otherwise he wouldn't get the job.
  • Chestnut scheduled a meeting about playing the character and his manager/agent/publicist told him to take that down immediately otherwise he wouldn't get the job.
  • Chestnut heard a movie was coming and his manager/agent/publicist told him to take that down immediately otherwise he wouldn't get the job.
  • Chestnut got the got part and his manager/agent/publicist told him to take that down immediately otherwise he wouldn't get the job.
  • Or, maybe, he's just a big fan and didn't think his post would be so wildly misinterpreted.

Now, the question becomes, do you think Chestnut is the right guy to play Black Panther?
