'The Pirates! Band Of Misfits' Trailer Parodies 'The Hunger Games,' Uses Rather Ironic Tagline

So Aardman Animations has a new film coming out, called Pirates! Band of Misfits. It looks really tremendously cute, as it depicts a bunch of pirates via CGI-enhanced stop-motion animation. All good so far. Now a new trailer for the film seeks to parody The Hunger Games, and while that seems like a shaky tactic after the never-ending stream of Muppets parody trailers, I can't complain much about that, either. The parody trailer isn't as cute as the film itself seems to be, but it'll do.

What really caught my eye here was the tagline created just for this trailer. Check it out below.

So... yes, one tagline for The Hunger Games was "the world will be watching." And so, for a parody trailer, knocking off that tagline is a no-brainer.

But given that studios have waged a massive PR battle against piracy, am I the only one who thinks "The World Will Be Pirating" is a bit unfortunate, at the very least? (Don't get me wrong; I also think it is hilarious, but I don't quite think that sort of comedy is what the marketing team was going for.) "The World Will Be Plundering" probably never occurred to anyone.

Anyway: Pirates! Band of Misfits still looks cute and fun, regardless of whether this trailer really works or not. It opens on April 27.

Hugh Grant, starring in his first animated role, is the luxuriantly bearded Pirate Captain – a boundlessly enthusiastic, if somewhat less-than-successful, terror of the High Seas. With a rag-tag crew at his side (Martin Freeman, Brendan Gleeson, Russell Tovey, and Ashley Jensen), and seemingly blind to the impossible odds stacked against him, the Captain has one dream: to beat his bitter rivals Black Bellamy (Jeremy Piven) and Cutlass Liz (Salma Hayek) to the much coveted Pirate Of The Year Award. It's a quest that takes our heroes from the shores of exotic Blood Island to the foggy streets of Victorian London. Along the way they battle a diabolical queen (Imelda Staunton) and team up with a haplessly smitten young scientist (David Tennant), but never lose sight of what a pirate loves best: adventure!
