VOTD: '[the Films Of] Ridley Scott'
Last month, Kees van Dijkhuizen hinted that this month's installment of "[the films of]" would be "the biggest episode yet," and it seems he's made good on that promise. With 19 films under his belt, Ridley Scott is the most prolific of the filmmakers van Dijkhuizen's profiled so far, as well as the most established. Impressively, van Dijkhuizen has managed to keep the runtime under three minutes while still paying appropriate homage to each of the director's films.
"[the films of]" is van Dijkhuizen's yearlong series comprised of twelve montages, each of which highlights the style and oeuvre of a different director. This latest one, titled "[the films of] Ridley Scott," is the ninth installment. Watch it after the jump.
More than most of the other artists who've been featured so far, Scott has a very diverse filmography that ranges from war epics and sci-fi thrillers to romantic comedies. Though as van Dijkhuizen points out in his behind-the-scenes post, "you can't capture his essence, and definitely not in 3 minutes," he nevertheless does a fairly impressive job bringing these various styles together into one coherent, utterly watchable video. "For a retrospective video I had to rely less on his persona and more on memories / iconic shots he's made over the years, because even after an extensive Scott-a-thon I'm still not in the clear about his style or character," he writes. "But that's what's so great about him: he's a total mystery, and I think that's what makes his films so exciting."

As for the clue to next month's director, van Dijkhuizen writes, "Well, I'm much, much more familiar with next month's director's work and it won't be too hard to catch this director's iconic style. It will very much fit a holiday near the release of the video." I'm assuming the holiday in question is Halloween, so it's likely a horror director — who do you think it might be?
