John Hurt, Kevin Bacon, Robert Patrick And Ray Stevenson Join Billy Bob Thornton's 'Jayne Mansfied's Car'
Looks like Billy Bob Thornton is set with cast and financing for his next directorial effort, Jayne Mansfield's Car. But it also looks like neither of the recently reported additions, Dennis Quaid and Dwight Yoakam, might be in the movie. Get the full new roster after the break.
We've known that Robert Duvall would have a key role alongside Mr. Thornton, and Deadline reports that John Hurt, Kevin Bacon, Robert Patrick and Ray Stevenson will also appear. (This is a movie free of women, or so it would seem.) John Patrick Amedori is another one of the film's leads. Billy Bob Thornton co-wrote with Tom Epperson, and Deadline calls it "A comedy with dramatic overtone [that] revolves around the culture clash of two families, from different continents, in 1969."
That can be elaborated with previous comments from Robert Duvall, who said,
It's about a guy in between WWI and WWII who raises a family after his wife left him for an Englishman and moved to England...When the wife dies, she asks to be brought back to Alabama to be buried, and at that point the character hasn't seen her in 20 or 30 years. The two families — her original family she abandoned and her English family — meet and then things get really interesting.
I don't know what to think about this one. I like the cast a lot, and I'd really like to see Billy Bob Thornton make a good film. But I can't muster up a lot of enthusiasm for it as the picture gets close to shooting. Hopefully more script details and some footage will improve my disposition towards the movie. Jayne Mansfield's Car shoots June 22 in Georgia.
