And one more genre mash-up comic has sold an option to a major producer or studio. The comic Zombies vs Robots, by Chris Ryall and Ashley Wood, led to a spec script of the same name by video game scriptwriter turned film writer/director JT Petty (The Burrowers, S&Man). Three companies — Platinum Dunes, Circle of Confusion and omic publisaher IDW — have teamed together to co-produce for Sony Pictures.

Deadline says the spec script "focuses on a young girl who is the last survivor on earth. She is protected by a group of robots from a pack of zombies that are intelligent and evolved."

At this point, that's all the info Deadline has. No director, no other talent.

But we know that the backstory of Zombies vs Robots has three smarty scientists creating a sort of time-travel warphole, though which robots are sent into the future after the first use of the portal renders a scientist not alive. The robots return carrying some virus or infection that kills off humanity, but for one infant girl. The robots protect and nurture her, and plan to use her DNA to repopulate the Earth, while the zombies collectively decide that their one last human snack isn't going to get away. And so: war!

Kind of a cute, if possibly quite expensive proposition. But at least there is a ready-made sequel thanks to the original comic creators: Zombies vs Robots vs Amazons! (Of course.)
