VOTD: 'Harry Potter' Flash Mob Invades Grand Central Terminal In NYC
Muggles beware. It seems like Manhattan is becoming a frightening hot bed of wizard activity. We know they're hosting the fourth annual Quidditch World Cup later this week and a few years back the Chosen One, Harry Potter himself, was seen naked on stage with a horse. Now, Voldemort and his Death Eaters have been video tapped causing a ruckus in Grand Central Terminal. You can see the video after the jump.
Thanks to The Daily What for the heads up.
After watching the video, it's obviously not the REAL Voldemort and the Death Eaters. Anyone who read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows knows what happened to that lot. More likely, these are just people who dressed up as Voldemort and the Death Eaters for Halloween. Which begs the question, does sarcasm come across on the Internet?
I must admit, the sheer number of people that were involved in this flash mob – plus the ear piercing cackle of the would be Bellatrix Lestrange - would have actually made me nervous for a few seconds. Until they pulled out their wands. Then I would have been like, "Oh, Harry Potter fans, I get it." The best part of the video, though, are the comments by the innocent bystanders. "Why are you ganging up on him?" Hilarious.
With the seventh movie less than two weeks away, it's very cool to see Potter-mania once again ramping up. Then, next summer when Deathly Hallows Part 2 is released, it'll surely happen again. Here's my question though. In five, 10 years, are people still going to be playing muggle quidditch and dressing up like Death Eaters for Halloween? I firmly believe that the books, and movies, will stand the test of time. But I'm not sure if the panic around the franchise will always be there. Will it be Lord of the Rings, which is popular but still alien to some people, or Star Wars, which is ubiquitous?
