First Official Photo From The Smurfs, Teaser Trailer Description
Sony Pictures Animation/Columbia Pictures has released the first official photo from the upcoming big screen CGI/live action hybrid 3D adaptation of The Smurfs. The photo features our first look at the computer generated Smurfs: Grouchy, Papa and Clumsy, in Times Square New York City. Check the uncropped photo out in full, after the jump. We also have a full description of the teaser trailer, and information on where/when you can find it.
The teaser trailer for the movie will be attached to prints of Toy Story 3. I've had a chance to see the trailer, which involves landmarks around the world turning blue, with a voice over telling the audience to prepare for something big, and that next Summer "our world is about to get Smurf'd". We then see the a couple seconds of three smurfs in Times Square, as shown in this first preview image. This is followed by a shot of a New York Yellow Taxi diving fast with the Smurfs holding on to the advertisement on the top of the car. The advertisement reads "SmurfHappens.com". Right now the domain redirects to the Sony Pictures website, but I'm sure the official website will be up Thursday along with the trailer which will be on Yahoo Movies.
What do you think of the computer animated versions of The Smurfs?
USA Today reveals how the film begins: The opening starts off in the Middle Ages, Gargamel discovers the Smurfs' magical village and scatters them into the woods. Clumsy goes the wrong way into a forbidden grotto where a few other Smurfs follow, and because it's a blue moon, there's a magical portal that transports them to Central Park. Yeah, doesn't make much sense... And instead of trying to eat the Smurfs, the movie Gargamel "simply wants to capture the Smurfs to serve as charms, whose mystical essence will make his inept magic more powerful — and dangerous."
