Predators Movie Trailer
We showed you footage of Predators the other day, and now the full trailer is here. Produced by Robert Rodriguez based on his story and directed by Nimród Antal, the film stars Adrien Brody, Topher Grace, Alice Braga, Danny Trejo, Laurence Fishburne and Walton Goggins.
IGN has the trailer, and you can see a lower-res embed below. The first thing that comes to mind is that, with respect to rhythm and sound this seems to be edited in a way that consciously emulates the original trailer for Alien. (Also known as one of the best trailers ever cut.)
Most of this footage was seen in the two-minute clip released during SXSW — for long-time fans, there aren't any significant new creatures or money shots here. But we do get a better introduction, however brief, to the group of characters stuck on the predator game reserve planet. I don't think those who were irritated at the casting of Brody and Grace are going to have their minds changed, but I think they look fine based on what we see here. And I like that there doesn't appear to be a lot of green-screen stage stuff; the movie looks sweaty and dirty, which is great.
I am glad that the snippets of dialogue that played over the 2-minute clip's title card have been removed ("Over here," and "any time") because they were too much of a direct callback to the original film. Much rather see this as it's own thing, rather than a blend of new footage and self-aware semi-remade scenes. Whether or not that's what we're actually going to get, I can't say.
Here's the synopsis:
Royce, a mercenary who reluctantly leads a group of elite warriors who come to realize they've been brought together on an alien planet... as prey. With the exception of a disgraced physician, they are all cold-blooded killers mercenaries, Yakuza, convicts, death squad members human "predators" that are now being systemically hunted and eliminated by a new breed of alien Predators.
Predators hits on July 7th, 2010.
