Reacher Season 2 Is Awesome, Says Person In Charge Of Making Sure You Watch Reacher

Lee Child's Jack Reacher novels finally got an adaptation that resonated with audiences and fans of the books in a major way last year when Amazon Prime Video released "Reacher." The show with the no-nonsense title stars Alan Ritchson as the lead character and, unlike Tom Cruise in the pair of "Jack Reacher" movies, the actor has the gigantic stature that people associate with the popular literary figure. Naturally, given the show's success, a second season is coming our way and the head of TV at Amazon would like you to know that it is even better than the first one.

Amazon Studios' Head of Television Vernon Sanders spoke in an interview with Collider about "Reacher" season 2 and, perhaps not surprisingly, had a lot of very nice things to say about everyone involved. More to the point, Sanders believes that the sophomore season is going to be even more satisfying to viewers. Here's what he had to say about it:

"It's going really well. Alan is back, and he is so fantastic in the role. I'm so proud of the producers [for] finding that fit for Reacher. The Reacher fans of the book, their reaction to the show has just been a dream. Season 2 is awesome. And as great as season one was, I think season two delivers beyond that, and I do think there's a good chance that that show will be back next year."

That all sounds nice, but it's also a pretty tall order. "Reacher" season 1 carries a stellar 92% critical approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, to go with an equally great 91% audience score. People absolutely love this show. Does it really get better from here?

Taking it with a big grain of salt

At first glance, fans of the show are probably delighted to hear what Mr. Sanders has to say. Better than all of the big-man-beatdowns we were treated to last time? A treat! But let's keep in mind that this is the man at the absolute top of the food chain when it comes to Amazon's TV output. It wouldn't matter if the show were an absolute dumpster fire, he would never have a negative thing to say about it publicly. Am I saying it is a dumpster fire? Absolutely not! Showrunner Nick Santora clearly has a damn good handle on things. I am, however, saying that these specific comments should be taken with at least a touch of trepidation.

That aside, the first season adapted Child's first book in the series, titled "Killing Floor." We're going a little out of order this time, as the second season will be taking on "Bad Luck and Trouble," which was originally published in 2007 and is actually the 11th book in the series. As for what that means to you, the viewer? The synopsis for that particular book reads as follows:

From a helicopter high above the California desert, a man is sent free-falling into the night. On the streets of Portland, Jack Reacher is pulled out of his wandering life and plunged into the heart of a conspiracy that is killing old friends . . . and the people he once trusted with his life.

"Reacher" season 2 does not have a release date but is expected to debut sometime in 2023.
