The Mandalorian Has Shown The Way For Bo-Katan To Rebuild Mandalore

This post contains spoilers for "The Mandalorian" season 3, episode 3, "The Convert."

Lady Bo-Katan Kryze has stood on many sides of Mandalore. She began her life in the royal family and watched her father die to protect Mandalore. Later, she joined up with Death Watch, opposing her sister, the Duchess Satine Kryze, and her pacifist ways. When she saw the corruption inside of Death Watch led by Maul, she left and sought to reunite Mandalore once again. She then rallied the Mandalorians, along with Ahsoka Tano and elements of the 501st clone legion, to take back the planet from the clutches of the former Sith warrior, only to watch the Empire take over and install their own puppet in her place.

For years, Bo-Katan continued to seek a way to reunite Mandalore. Finally, the answer was given to her by Sabine Wren in the form of the Darksaber. Bringing the Mandalorians together again, Bo-Katan removed the Empire from the planet, only to have the Darksaber stolen by Moff Gideon during the Night of a Thousand Tears.

Mandalore is very important to Bo-Katan, and she's devoted most of her life to it in a lot of different ways. However, the latest episode of "The Mandalorian," "Chapter 19: The Convert," shows us her clearest path to unite her people once more and usher in a new era for her home planet.

Redemption

On the way to showing Din Djarin to the Mines of Mandalore, Bo-Katan spoke of the sacrifice her father made to defend Mandalore. She also chided Din Djarin for the scattered division among the sects of Mandalore that have prevented their people from truly uniting. She implies that had the Children of the Watch — Din DJarin's sect of Mandalorian culture — not hidden on Concord during the Night of a Thousand Tears, perhaps they could have defeated any enemy, not just the Empire.

Uniting Mandalore is clearly something on her mind.

When Bo-Katan rocketed into the Living Waters of Mandalore to rescue Din from his own clownery, she redeemed herself in the eyes of the Children of the Watch. As long as she doesn't remove her helmet, they will consider her a true Mandalorian. For now, she hides among them while she and Din regroup from that Imperial attack on Kalevala. Will she learn from this covert ways to bring all of Mandalore together?

One can only hope.

But what of keeping the secret of the mythosaur? Does that bode well or ill for this continued redemption?

The Song of the mythosaur

The mythosaur is definitely on Bo-Katan's mind as she takes refuge in the covert of the Children of the Watch. The mythosaur skull hanging on the wall practically beckons her at the end as she contemplates her next move.

For now, though, she's the only one with knowledge of the mythosaur's resurgence. In "The Book of Boba Fett," the Armorer told Din that "the songs of eons past foretold of the mythosaur rising up to herald a new age of Mandalore." Bo-Katan is well versed in the myths and stories of her people, and knowing the mythosaur is there, alive and well, in the Living Waters beneath Mandalore could be her ticket to bringing the Children of the Watch back together with those who had followed her previously.

Her biggest problem is that Din Djarin has the rightful possession of the Darksaber. Will she put aside the petty bickering she lamented in the last episode and join forces with him to lead the Mandalorian people together? Will she give the information to Din Djarin so he might lead them? Or will she do something much more selfish and ill-advised, like trying to take the Darksaber from him?

"The Convert" made the case for any of these to be a possibility, and any of them could lead to the reunification of Mandalore, brought back to its great glory. If Bo-Katan is able to lead Mandalore once again, though, this episode gave her all the tools she needed to be respected by all sects of Mandalore. Well, except the Darksaber.

Hopefully, she'll learn the lessons of her father and bring everyone together.

"The Mandalorian" is streaming only on Disney+. New episodes premiere on Wednesdays.
