The Grogu Puppet Made Pedro Pascal Cry In The Mandalorian

In a move that should light the internet ablaze, everyone's favorite Daddy, Pedro Pascal, just appeared on the popular talk show Hot Ones to eat spicy wings and talk about the incredible year he's having starring thanks to "The Last of Us" and "The Mandalorian." Early on in the interview (before the level of spice became too intense to bear), Pascal goes into detail about working with the intricate puppetry that helps to bring his newly adopted son, Grogu, to life.

When "The Empire Strikes Back" was filming, so much was riding on the Yoda puppet and Frank Oz to pull off the impossible task of creating a convincing performance. If Yoda failed to connect with audiences as the reclusive Jedi Master tasked with training Luke, the entire movie would've fallen apart right then and there. Pascal and the creators of "The Mandalorian" have benefitted greatly from that first experiment, and they've managed to create a character in Grogu that the world has fallen in love with.

Pascal revealed that there are two Grogu puppets used in the series: one that works more in wide shots when Pascal's character, Din Djarin, is holding him and a much more complicated puppet used for closeups. Before Pascal ended up getting teary-eyed by the hot sauce in Hot Ones, he admitted that Grogu made him cry during the emotional finale of season 2's "The Rescue."

'Let me have the scene bro!'

As you'll recall from the season 2 finale, Mando must say goodbye to Grogu and hand him over to Luke Skywalker, who will continue training him in the ways of the Jedi. It's so rare for Pedro Pascal to remove his beskar helmet in "The Mandalorian" that it becomes a powerful moment every time he does show his face. Pascal is great in the scene, and the in-demand actor was happy to share the spotlight, telling Hot Ones:

"He's a very cooperative and fulfilling scene partner, acting partner, you know? It's pretty crazy. Like having to say goodbye to him in season 2 and getting praise for, 'Oh my gosh, like, you know, you have so much subtle emotion and you're dealing with a puppet!' And I'm like, 'This puppet is making me cry.'"

Those Disney eyes on the Grogu puppet would probably make us all tear up. Hilariously, Pascal found himself getting a little competitive with his animatronic acting partner. "You know, I fully, I'm like, 'Damn! Chill! You're stealing it! It's like the one time I have my helmet off, like, let me have the scene bro!'"

If Pascal wasn't already one of your favorite actors working today, watching him gush over Grogu should make you warm up to him even more. Pascal was surely one of the most requested guests to appear on Hot Ones, and finally one of the best talk show guests today gets to undergo the ultimate eating contest.

New episodes of "The Mandalorian" premiere Wednesdays on Disney+.
