The Palace: Everything We Know About The HBO Series Starring Kate Winslet And Hugh Grant

Following her Emmy-winning performance in "Mare of Easttown," Kate Winslet is returning for a brand new series on HBO. The "Titanic" and "Avatar: The Way of Water" actress is leading the cast of "The Palace," which depicts a year in an authoritarian regime as its foundation begins to crumble within the walls of a palace. Hugh Grant ("Notting Hill," "Love Actually") is part of the cast alongside Winslet — he was last seen in Netflix's "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery" in a cameo appearance, playing Benoit Blanc's live-in partner.

"The Palace" is rocking talent behind the scenes too, with the writers of "Succession," "The Menu," and "Bodies Bodies Bodies" working with the directors of "The Crown" and "The Queen."

While their characters, the plot, and filming details are being kept under wraps, here's everything we know — as yet — about HBO's "The Palace."

The cast of The Palace

As per Variety, "The Palace" tells "the story of one year within the walls of the palace of an authoritarian regime as it begins to unravel."

Along with Winslet and Grant, "The Palace" cast includes Belgian actor Matthias Schoenaerts ("Rust and Bone," "Far from the Madding Crowd") and English actress Andrea Riseborough ("Mandy," "To Leslie"). Cesar-winning French actor-filmmaker Guillaume Galienne ("Me, Myself and Mum," "The French Dispatch") is set to play the husband to Winslet's character. Martha Plimpton ("The Good Wife") has been cast in an unknown role.

HBO is yet to share character names and descriptions for any cast member, so we'll hopefully have more information soon. But with a stellar cast all around, "The Palace" viewers can expect nothing short of thrilling performances.

Winslet and Grant have other exciting projects in the pipeline. The actress will be seen in another HBO limited series called "The Trust," an adaptation of Hernan Diaz's novel of the same name. Grant, on the other hand, plays the villain Forge Fletcher in the highly-anticipated fantasy adventure film "Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves," scheduled to release on March 31 in cinemas.

The creative team behind The Palace

As for the creative team, "Succession" executive producer Will Tracy will serve as showrunner on "The Palace," with two-time Oscar nominee Stephen Frears ("The Queen," "High Fidelity") slated to direct and executive produce. Frank Rich will also executive produce the HBO limited series, and Jessica Hobbs ("The Crown") has signed on as director and co-executive producer.

The show's writing team includes Seth Reiss ("The Menu"), Juli Weiner ("Last Week Tonight with John Oliver"), Jen Spyra ("The Late Show with Stephen Colbert"), novelist Gary Shteyngart, and Sarah DeLappe ("Bodies Bodies Bodies").

In a prepared statement, HBO Executive Vice President of Programming Francesca Orsi said: "We are honored to be working with this incredibly talented group of filmmakers on 'The Palace.' The notion that Kate Winslet and Stephen Frears, two of our industry's leading lights are joining forces to bring Will Tracy's wildly original, prescient, and dazzling scripts to life at HBO is a dream come true for us."
