The research was conducted by Zefr, a YouTube data and marketing company.

The Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer, which blew up the Internet over Thanksgiving weekend, came in second with 81 million views. Trailing behind those two were Avengers: Age of Ultron (78 million views), Jurassic World (64 million), and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (58 million).

Now, this wasn't entirely a fair fight. Fifty Shades of Grey had a good four months to rack up views before Star Wars: The Force Awakens came along. With that in mind, it's impressive that Star Wars: The Force Awakens did as well as it did. Of the trailers in the top 20, Star Wars: The Force Awakens was actually the last one to drop.

The Star Wars: The Force Awakens promo did have the biggest debut of the year, with 58.2 million views in its first 5 days. That's almost the same number Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles did in nine months. Also worth pointing out is The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 is the only movie with two spots on the top 20 list.
