Hollywood is a cutthroat industry with an extremely limited number of roles that far too many people are vying for everyday. That’s especially true in the world of stand-up comedy, where you have to make hundreds of people laugh every single day. A new Amazon documentary series called Inside Jokes will follow seven up-and-coming comedians as they do everything that can to land a coveted spot in the New Faces showcase at the famed Just for Laughs comedy festival on Montreal. Don’t be surprised if you see adults regressing back to their childhood after they see this summer’s comedy Tag.
The feature directorial debut from television and stand-up special director Jeff Tomsic follows Ed Helms, Hannibal Buress, Jon Hamm, Jeremy Renner and Jake Johnson as a group of five friends who have been playing a game of tag intermittently for around 30 years. Based on a surprisingly true story, the film brings a mix of stylized action and comedy together for a movie that could be the sleeper hit of the summer. Read More »
The internet was in an uproar when Jeremy Renner was nowhere to be seen in the latest Avengers: Infinity War trailer. And I, along with the the 12 other Hawkeye fans, were not assuaged by the Russo brothers’ promises that Renner would play an “important part” in the Marvel film.
But no matter. Because we have another movie coming out that’s all about Renner. And judging by the Tag trailer, he has more screen time in this than he ever received in any of the Marvel movies.

Almost three years ago, James Franco optioned the rights to Greg Sestero‘s book The Disaster Artist, which the actor wrote about the experience of making The Room. The Room, of course, is director/writer/star Tommy Wiseau‘s cult midnight classic, a movie made with significantly more passion than skill. While we were hoping to see Franco’s film and Zeroville out last year, Franco’s behind-the-scenes look at The Room is debuting next month at South by Southwest.
Before The Disaster Artist premieres, there’s a new pic of Franco brothers from the film. Below, check out The Disaster Artist photo.

We didn’t get a new movie from director Judd Apatow this year, and part of the reason for that is because he’s producing a new TV series for HBO as another one is wrapping up. Girls will begin its final season in February, but Judd Apatow will stay comfy at HBO with a new comedy series starring stand-up comedian Pete Holmes.
Crashing follows Pete Holmes playing a version of himself from years ago. The HBO series follows Holmes as an up and coming, naive stand-up comedian in New York City whose seemingly happy life is uprooted when he finds his wife cheating on him. As he tries to get some stage time and recover from his destroyed marriage, he couch surfs across New York City, staying with his various comedian friends played by Holmes’ real-life comedian friends who you’ll definitely recognize in a new trailer for the show.

Tonight, for one night only, Nerdland is playing in theaters across the United States courtesy of Fathom Events. The wacky, wild, and bizarrely sweet animated film tells the story of two 30-year-old friends, John (Paul Rudd) and Elliot (Patton Oswalt), on the hunt for infamy. Sick of waiting around for fame to drop on their laps, the actor who doesn’t act and the screenwriter who barely writes decide to do whatever necessary to grab headlines.
Director Chris Prynoski‘s (Metalocapylpse) buddy picture sprang from the mind of screenwriter Andrew Kevin Walker many years ago. Walker, best known for Se7en, spent plenty of time and money trying to make Nerdland. It was originally planned as a live-action film that David Fincher was going to direct, but after years of hearing “no,” Walker’s story finally got told as an R-rated animated feature, thanks to the fine people at Titmouse Inc., the animation production company behind The Venture Bros., Superjail!, and Metalocalypse.
Walker recently spoke with us about his love letter to Los Angeles, the Jonah Hill draft of Nerdland, working with David Fincher, and far more. Below, read our Andrew Kevin Walker interview.
