Everyone was talking about Mickey Rourke‘s acceptance speech at the 2009 Independent Spirit Awards. And why wouldn’t they? It seems like every time he opens his mouth he becomes the show. At the beginning of the speech Rourke makes a plea for Hollywood to give Eric Roberts another chance. Apparently Mickey never saw the biggest grossing picture of last year, The Dark Knight or his run last year on Heroes.
Rourke challenges “a little blond dude” who parodied his character earlier in the night, and explains what he meant at the Golden Globes when he said that director Darren Aronofsky is “one tough son of a bitch”. He goes on to thank a bunch of Fox Searchlight employees, who he is unable to remember their name, and even calls one of them “the little one who I call gap-tooth”. He even talks about the scene where he is “banging a girl in the ass in the bathroom”. Check out the video after the jump.
I can’t wait to hear what he’ll say tonight if he actually wins the Oscar. And if it does happen, they better not “play him off” the stage.

WOW. Just when you thought Slyvester Stallone couldn’t pack more action heroes in his upcoming action film The Expendables, AICN breaks the news that Arnold Schwarzenegger has joined the cast. But before you get too excited, we must warn you that it’s only a cameo. Arnold is only filming one day, and he will be playing himself – California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. So don’t expect to see Arnold getting his hands dirty. Also, Eric Roberts has apparently replaced Ben Kingsley as CIA agent Monroe.
The cast now includes Mickey Rourke, Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Randy Couture, Dolph Lundgren, Forest Whitaker, Eric Roberts and Arnold Schwarzenegger. The film tells the story about an “expendable” team, hired to do jobs that no one else can or will. The team is sent to infiltrate a South American country to overthrow the ruthless dictator and liberate the country.
Eric Roberts has been cast in the Batman Begins sequel, The Dark Knight, according to the LA Daily News. Roberts will play Sal Maroni, a major mob competitor with Carmine Falcone, who was played by Tom Wilkinson in the first film. Both characters appeared in The Long Halloween, a 13-issue comic book limited series written by Jeph Loeb with art by Tim Sale, that is said to have inspired The Dark Knight’s story-line. If you haven’t read The Long Halloween, GO BUY IT NOW!
The actor is best known for his roles in the hit television series Heroes and The L Word. Roberts is the brother of Julia (Oceans Eleven), and father of Emma (Nancy Drew). The Dark Knight is currently shooting in Chicago and will hit theaters on July 18, 2008.
