'Pacific Rim' Extended TV Spot: Once More Into The Breach

At this point we've seen a lot from Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim, but with a couple weeks left before the film opens, why not one more trailer? (Here's why: the film needs more of a guaranteed audience than it already has, and so Warner Bros. and Legendary are trying to show people what this one is.)

This extended 2-minute TV spot features a longer version of the "apocalypse" speech from Idris Elba, and a more detailed presentation of the launch sequence for the giant robot Jaegers, too. There are some other flashes of new footage, along with a quiet, fearful audio track that goes for tense breaths rather than big "braaaaahm!" noises. There's good stuff here, though I almost would have preferred to wait for the full film to see a few of these shots.

Pacific Rim stars Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Ron Perlman, Robert Kazinsky, Max Martini, Clifton Collins, Jr., Burn Gorman, Larry Joe Campbell, Brad William Henke and Diego Klattenhoff. It opens July 12.

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity's resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes–a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)–who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind's last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
