Katey Sagal, Ed O'Neill And Christina Applegate Game For 'Married With Children' Spinoff

With the return of classic television series like Full House and The X-Files in new limited-run series, David Faustino recently announced plans for a Married With Children spinoff to center on his character, Bud Bundy. Today, Faustino's TV mom Katey Sagal was on a Television Critics Association panel for her new FX show The Bastard Executioner. After the panel she spoke to reporters and confirmed not only her commitment to Faustino's show, but said both two other original co-stars are set to return, too.

"David approached me about and I said, 'Anything, absolutely,'" Sagal said. "I think all three of us, Ed, Christina and myself all told David yes. It's not really a reboot. It's a continuation I think of Bud Bundy's story."

Married... with Children made Fox into a legitimate fourth network back in the late '80s. It was a politically incorrect sitcom which generated anti-saccharine family comedy in

Al Bundy (O'Neill) hated his wife (Sagal) and kids (Applegate and Faustino), the anti-saccharine family comedy.

The show earned Fox publicity thanks to controversy and protests. It ran for 11 years on Fox, but was unceremoniously cancelled without so much as a series finale. Sagal said she generally prefers original material, but the open ending of Married with Children makes a reboot more appealing.

"I'm always for an original idea," Sagal said. "I suppose there's a certain value in rebooting some of that but I'm not quite sure what it is. If you actually have a story to tell about those people... The only reason a Married with Children reboot might make sense to me is it never really ended. So it might be nice to see it end. So I don't know. I'm not sure how I feel about that. There's so many original ideas."

Sagal will wait to see Faustino's idea for the new show. Asked to speculate on the Bundys' current whereabouts, she joked, "Where do I see them? Oh, I don't know. They're in a trailer somewhere."

As Peggy Bundy, Sagal had an iconic wardrobe with leopard spandex pants and big red hair. She expects Peggy's look will not have changed in the 18 years since we last saw her. "Absolutely not," Sagal said. "She would probably have to wear that hair."
