'La La Land' Trailer: Ryan Gosling And Emma Stone Sing, Dance, Fall Madly In Love

How about a bit of wistful longing to go with your coffee this morning? Summit Entertainment has just unveiled the dreamy first trailer for La La Land, the new musical romance by Whiplash director Damien ChazelleRyan Gosling and Emma Stone (so great together in Crazy, Stupid, Love.; a shame that chemistry was squandered in Gangster Squad) play a pair of aspiring artists who have the gorgeous and terrible luck of falling for each other in a city that's known for crushing spirits — that is, Los Angeles. Check it out below.

Entertainment Weekly unveiled the first La La Land trailer.

That swoonworthy song you're hearing is "City of Stars," sung by Gosling, and it's available for purchase on iTunes right now.

La La Land is set in modern-day Los Angeles, but you probably wouldn't know it by looking at the trailer. There's a real Old Hollywood feel to the whole thing, from the colorful sets to the unabashedly fanciful song-and-dance numbers to the prim and polished costumes. Plus it looks like a true musical, as opposed to just a romcom with a few whimsical flourishes. And (at least in the trailer) the whole thing is played with an old-fashioned, earnest romanticism that's rare in mainstream movies right now. La La Land was already one of our most-anticipated movies of the year, and the trailer has us more excited than ever.La La Land opens December 2, 2016.

Written and directed by Academy Award® nominee Damien Chazelle, LA LA LAND tells the story of Mia [Emma Stone], an aspiring actress, and Sebastian [Ryan Gosling], a dedicated jazz musician, who are struggling to make ends meet in a city known for crushing hopes and breaking hearts. Set in modern day Los Angeles, this original musical about everyday life explores the joy and pain of pursuing your dreams.

Summit Entertainment presents, an Imposter Pictures / Gilbert Films production, a Marc Platt production, a Damien Chazelle film.
