'Amazing Spider-Man 2:' Carnage And Venom Teased In New Viral Post [UPDATED]

UPDATE: Spider-Man producers Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach commented on this story. Read their quotes below. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is already bursting at the seams will villains; now two of the biggest not in the movie have been teased. The official Daily Bugle Tumblr site posted an article about the arrest of Cletus Kasady, written by Eddie Brock. Brock is the real name of Venom and Kasady is Carnage, an off-shoot of Venom that's even more evil.

Neither is expected to actually be in the new film, which opens in the U.S. May 2, but with Venom eventually getting his own spin-off movie, Carnage would be a natural adversary for him as well as Spider-Man. Read more about The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Carnage and Venom below.

Yahoo premiered the following blog post from the Daily Bugle:

KILLER KASADY CAUGHT

By Eddie Brock

The greater New York tri-state area got a whole lot safer yesterday.  Captured late last night, Cletus Kasady, escaped serial killer and notorious redhead, was eerily calm and subdued when he eagerly surrendered to the FBI. The manhunt for the FBI's Most Wanted felon ended innocuously in a small strip mall outside of New Rochelle, New York.

A barista at a local coffee shop recognized Kasady and eventually called the police.  The barista apologized to reporters later admitting she didn't immediately alert authorities hoping Spider-Man would beat them to the scene.  "What can I say?  I am a HUGE fan."

Kasady had been sentenced to twelve life sentences for the twelve murders he committed — but escaped while being transported between federal prisons. Sources say Kasady has been remanded to Ravencroft Institute for further interrogation until he is relocated to a maximum security federal prison. While the barista didn't get her wish, we know Spider-Man thanks her... as we all do. For now it appears that Kasady won't be causing any more carnage.

"Carnage," get it? Two things before getting to the text itself. First, the Daily Bugle site has been updating with similar teases every day for months. A post teasing a Spider-Man villain is not a big deal and most posts go up relatively unnoticed. However, getting Yahoo to post this before it goes up on the actual site (as of 830 a.m. PST Thursday it wasn't up on the Tumblr) certainly suggests Sony wants to call this post out in particular.

The reasoning is obvious. Venom and Carnage are two of the most sinister and popular Spider-Man villains. The former already has a spin-off movie in the works (Alex Kurtzman is directing and co-writing). Carnage has yet to be seen on screen. He would be a frightening foe for any superhero, but also a technical challenge for Hollywood, considering his suit is in constant, gooey motion.

Does this post suggest Carnage's alter ego, Cletus Kasady, is in prison in the world of The Amazing Spider-Man 2? A case can certainly be made. And how will these two characters potentially fit in with The Sinister Six?

The Amazing Spider-Man 2, directed by Marc Webb, opens May 2 in the U.S. and April 16 in the U.K. We'll have much more on the film as we approach release.UPDATE: IGN asked Arad and Tolmach if Carnage could appear in the Venom movie, they said the following:"What a great idea," Arad said. "Exactly," added Tolmach. "The idea of Venom and Carnage... taking it into consideration. Watch out for this Venom movie. We are crazy excited."
