Everything We Know About The Spiderwick Chronicles Live-Action Series So Far
Time for more fantastical coming-of-age adventures! Disney+ recently announced their big plans to adapt "The Spiderwick Chronicles" into a series, sending us into another whirlwind of kids facing off against faeries and goblins and trolls, oh my! If that title sounds a bit familiar, then you might be thinking back to the 2008 Nickelodeon/Paramount movie of the same name. The book series was previously adapted into a 2008 feature film, featuring Freddie Highmore, Sarah Bolger, Mary-Louise Parker, Martin Short, and Seth Rogen.This new adaptation is also based on the books, but brings the story to live with a much longer runtime as a Disney+ original series. When and where to watch The Spiderwick Chronicles
"The Spiderwick Chronicles" is coming to the Disney+ streaming service ... eventually. The streamer announced the series as part of the Disney+ Day debacle, but without a release date or even a year, indicating that it may still be in very early development. Paramount Television Studios and 20th Television are producing the series for Disney, so we know for sure that the show will debut to the streamer.
What we think the Spiderwick Chronicles will be about
"The Spiderwick Chronicles" is described as a "modern coming-of-age story combined with fantasy adventure." Those familiar with the books will know the basic outline but here's a quick rundown: the series follows the Grace children, twins Simon and Jared and their older sister Mallory, after they move into the decrepit Spiderwick Estate with their mother, Helen. They quickly learn that their ancestral family home is full of much more than creaky floorboards and leaky faucets when they encounter a brownie named Thimbletack, which introduces them to the wide world of fairies and many more magical creatures. From there they begin to "unravel a dark mystery about their great-great Uncle who once discovered the secret and maybe foreboding faerie world existing parallel to their own."

What we know about the cast and crew of The Spiderwick Chronicles
"The Spiderwick Chronicles" is based on the novel series of the same name, which comes from Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black. The titles include "The Field Guide," "The Seeing Stone," "Lucinda's Secret," "The Ironwood Tree," and "The Wrath of Mulgarath." These were followed by a second series, consisting of three books. From the sound of it, the Disney+ series will focus on the story of the Grace children told in the primary series.
According to Deadline, Lyon Daniels ("We Can Be Heroes") and Noah Cottrell ("Skyscraper") have been cast to play the main protagonists, twin brothers Jared and Simon Grace, respectively.
DiTerlizzi and Black will executive produce the series with Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Jeremy Bell, D.J. Goldberg, and Julie Kane-Ritsch. Aron Eli Coleite, executive producer of "Locke & Key" will serve as showrunner. So far, no casting announcements have been made, and there's no news on who will write and direct the series.
