After the massive popularity of the violent mystery video game series "Danganronpa," the creator's follow up project "Tribe Nine" is adding an anime series to its budding franchise, which already includes an announced mobile game and web series. It was always planned that "Tribe Nine" would encompass a variety of media platforms, but the announcement of the anime came as a surprise to fans already pleased as punch with the upcoming roleplaying game mobile app and webtoon. The anime announcement also came with a release date, so this has been in the works far longer than fans realized. Here's everything you need to know about "Tribe Nine" before the anime's release.

Tribe Nine Release Date and Where You Can Watch It

Speculation about "Tribe Nine" began when the series' creative team first teased the property back in February 2020, but they kept any details close to the chest. Now, "Tribe Nine" has been given the release date of January 2022 and coming exclusively to Funimation's streaming service. The series is already one of the provider's most anticipated series, and there has been no information provided regarding an English language dubbing. Meaning, the series will be presented on Funimation with Japanese voice-over acting and English subtitles upon release.

What is Tribe Nine About?

According to the official description from Funimation:

Haru Shirogane is a weak-minded person who is constantly bullied while Taiga has traveled from across the sea in hopes of becoming the strongest man in the world. One night, the two meet up with Shun Kamiya, the strongest XB (Extreme Baseball) player, and leader of the Minato Tribe. When they meet, each of the Tribes scattered throughout Neo-Tokyo are about to face a major threat. On the orders of the King of Neo-Tokyo, "Houtenshin", the Chiyoda Try, led by the mysterious Ojiro Otori, has started to take control of all the tribes in the country. Their evil clutches are about to reach the Minato Tribe...

Tribe Nine Director, Writer, And More

The series comes from "Danganronpa" creator Kazutaka Kodaka and produced by Liden Films. Yū Aoki ("Blue Exorcist: Kyoto Saga") will be directing the series with Michiko Yokote ("Pichi Pichi Pitch") writing the scripts. "Duel Masters" trading card game artist Yosuke Yabumoto will be designing the characters, with Masafumi Takada of "killer7," "God Hand," "No More Heroes," and "Earth Defense Force," and "Danganronpa" composing the music.

Tribe Nine Cast

The official "Tribe Nine" website offers character biographies of the Minato Tribe and the rival Chiyoda Tribe. Haru Shirogane will be voiced by Shun Horie, and he'll be joined by Akira Ishida as Shun Kamiya, Chiharu Sawashiro as Taiga, Mai Fuchigami as Saori Arisugawa, Mutsumi Tamura as Santarō Mita, Fukushi Ochiai as Manami Daimon, and Shōya Chiba as Kazuki Aoyama. The rival Chiyoda Tribe will feature Junichi Suwabe, as Ōjirō Ōtori, Hiroshi Naka as Tenshin Ōtori, and Mikako Komatsu as Yuī Kamiki. Considering this only covers two tribes, there will likely be more voice cast announcements of the other seven tribes closer to the series' release.
