The Equalizer Season 2: Release Date, Cast, And More

(Welcome to ...And More, our no-frills, zero B.S. guide to when and where you can watch upcoming movies and shows, and everything else you could possibly stand to know.)

In Hollywood currently, everything old is new again. Such is the case with "The Equalizer," CBS's revamp of the franchise for the small screen starring Queen Latifah. The first season of the show arrived earlier this year following the Super Bowl. Its 10-episode season did quite well for the network in the ratings department, and, as such, it didn't take long for CBS to hand out a renewal. Good news for fans of the show, as "The Equalizer" season 2 is hitting the airwaves sooner rather than later.

Here is what we know about "The Equalizer" season 2 so far.

The Equalizer Season 2 Release Date and Where You Can Watch It

"The Equalizer" season 2 is set to premiere on Sunday, October 10, 2021. CBS has included the show as part of its fall lineup. As far as watching it goes, viewers can tune in Sunday nights to watch it live. For those who prefer the streaming option, the show will also be available on Paramount+ (formerly CBS All Access) after it airs.

What is The Equalizer?

While most modern audiences likely know "The Equalizer" as a film franchise starring Denzel Washington, that's not how it began. It was originally a show that aired in the 1980s, with Edward Woodward in the leading role as Robert McCall. This time around, it's Queen Latifah leading the way as Robyn McCall, with CBS opted for a gender-swapped remake to bring the show back to life.

Here is the official synopsis for "The Equalizer":

Robyn McCall, an enigmatic woman with a mysterious background, uses her extensive skills to help those with nowhere else to turn. McCall comes across to most as an average single mom who is quietly raising her teenage daughter. But to a trusted few, she is "The Equalizer" — an anonymous guardian angel and defender of the downtrodden, who's also dogged in her pursuit of personal redemption.

The Equalizer Season 2 Showrunners, Crew, and More

This version of the show was created by Andrew Marlowe and Terri Miller, who also serve as showrunners. Marlowe, Miller, Queen Latifah, Shakim Compere, John Davis, John Fox, and Debra Martin Chase serve as executive producers. Richard Lindheim, the late creator of the original "Equalizer" TV show, is also credited as a producer.

The Equalizer Season 2 Cast

As mentioned, the cast is led by Queen Latifah as Robyn McCall. The majority of the core cast from season 1 are expected to return for the sophomore run of episodes. The ensemble also includes Chris Noth ("Sex and the City"), Lorraine Toussaint ("Concrete Cowboy"), Tory Kittles ("Colony"), Adam Goldberg ("Saving Private Ryan"), Liza Lapira ("NCIS"), and Laya DeLeon Hayes ("Raven's Home").

The Equalizer Season 2 Trailer

Unfortunately, at this stage in the game, we do not have a full-length trailer for the upcoming season of "The Equalizer." But a brief (and we do mean brief) teaser has made its way online, giving us the tiniest of windows into the life of Robyn McCall for the second season. Not much can be gleaned from the footage, as it is minimal. But we should have a more substantial trailer sooner rather than later, with the release date creeping up on us in a hurry.
