Find Out Where To See 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story' With 70mm IMAX Projection

Sadly, nowadays when a movie hits the IMAX screen, it's usually also in 3D by default. Very rarely are there IMAX screens showing a movie in 2D. However, in the case of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, there will be a very small amount of theaters not only showing the movie in IMAX 2D, but with a 70mm projection as well.

Find out where to catch the Rogue One 70mm IMAX screenings after the jump.

Before we get to the theater list, we'll explain just why it'll be worth seeking out a Rogue One 70mm IMAX screening. Even though director Gareth Edwards didn't shoot Rogue One on IMAX cameras, and he didn't shoot the movie on 70mm or 65 mm film like Christopher Nolan might have, he did shoot the movie on the Arri Alexa 65 camera, which is essentially a digital version of a 65mm camera. That means we'll be getting quite the widescreen spectacle on IMAX screens, one that has a larger surface area of imagery that was captured by the camera and will be projected onto a massive screen for maximum visual potential.

If you'd like a more detailed explanation as to why seeing Rogue One in this format will be a treat, check out our previous post on the matter over here. Otherwise, here are all the locations you can catch a Rogue One 70mm screening (via The Playlist):

Finally, to keep the IMAX hype train moving along, here's some new IMAX posters for Rogue One:

Each of these will be given out at AMC Theatres locations for those who buy an IMAX ticket to the movie. They'll release a new one for the first three Sundays that the movie is in theaters. But since most movie theaters don't always follow those rules when giving these posters out to audiences, you might be able to get your hands on one even if you don't see the movie in IMAX on Sunday.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits theaters on December 16 and tickets go on sale November 28 at 12:01am Eastern Time.
