Westworld Episode 9 Trailer: What Is Hidden In This Game?

Westworld episode 9 is titled "The Well-Tempered Clavier," a reference to a solo keyboard composition by Johann Sebastian Bach which is "generally regarded as being among the most influential works in the history of Western classical music." According to Wikipedia, the collection consists of two series of Preludes and Fugues in all major and minor keys, and the German of Bach's time Clavier (keyboard) was a generic name indicating a variety of keyboard instruments, most typically a harpsichord or clavichord – but not excluding an organ either." Of course, I don't know enough about music history to see the connection to Westworld other than the possibility of the two series representing the two time periods that most Westworld fans theorize we're seeing simultaneously in this series.

The episode is directed by Michelle MacLaren, which should excite a lot of you. The Canadian television director is best known for her work on The X-Files, Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead and HBO's Game of Thrones. MacLaren is known for directing dark, dramatic, sometimes tension-filled, yet funny episodes. MacLaren got Emmy nominations for the Season 3 episode of Breaking Bad titled "One Minute" (in which [spoiler invisotext, highlight to reveal]  Hank receives an anonymous call telling him he has one minute before someone is to attack him) and the season 5 mid-season finale episode titled "Gliding Over All" (which featured [spoiler invisotext, highlight to reveal] the awesome Goodfellas-like montage of Walt taking out Mike's nine associates and lawyer, Walt quitting the business for his family only to end with Hank's bathroom reading revelation). She was also originally supposed to direct Wonder Woman for Warner Bros.

The episode is written by Dan Dietz (Person of Interest) and Westworld co-producer Katherine Lingenfelter (Pushing Daisies, Caprica, House, The Leftovers).

The trailer shows a bunch of interesting scenes:

Maeve surprised Bernard by coming out of her diagnostic mode to Bernard. Does Maeve know that Bernard is a host that will help in her plan to escape? Will Maeve unlock all of Bernard's hidden memories/data?

Bernard is interested to find out what else Doctor Ford has hidden from him. Did Bernard kill Elsie? It certainly looked like it in this week's episode. But certainly, there is more to discover here. I think we are leading to a confrontation between Barnard and Ford. Remember, Ford quoted Mary Shelley's Frankenstein in this week's episode: "One man's life or death were but a small price to pay for the acquirement of the knowledge which I sought, for the dominion, I should acquire and transmit over the elemental foes of our race." This quote is from right before the doctor dies in Frankenstein. Will Ford die at the hands of his own creation?

And again we see hosts telling the Man in Black that the maze isn't meant for him. Who is it meant for? Dolores?

And the end of the trailer shows us a bloodbath.
