Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross Are Composing The Score For Peter Berg's 'Patriots Day'

For David Fincher's drama, The Social Network, Nine Inch Nails front man Trent Reznor and composer Atticus Ross teamed up to deliver their first collaboration on a feature film score. Since then, they've reteamed with the filmmaker for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Gone Girl, always delivering spectacular award worthy scores. But their next feature film collaboration will see them working with a different director this time.

Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross (who last collaborated on Fisher Stevens' climate change documentary Before the Flood) will be providing the score for Patriots Day, the Boston Marathon bombing drama directed by Deepwater Horizon and Lone Survivor helmer, which will again reteam the filmmaker with star Mark Wahlberg.

Director Peter Berg announced the news about the Patriots Day score on Instagram with this photo:

I couldn't be more honored than to be working with these two straight up genius artists. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. Bringing their deep soul and fury to @patriotsdayfilm @treznor

If this is your first time hearing about Patriots Day, the film chronicles the aftermath of the 2013 bombing of the Boston Marathon through the eyes of police sergeant Tommy Saunders (Mark Wahlberg), who becomes involved in the hunt for the bombers to prevent another attack.

Peter Berg has proven to be rather adept at bringing real life drama to the big screen, especially involving real heroes in some of the most dangerous situations they've ever seen. At this point, his movies have become a drama unto themselves, and they allow Mark Wahlberg to see some action that doesn't involve giant robots and Hitler. A score provided by Reznor and Ross will just be some sweet icing on what will hopefully be a great cinematic cake.

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Peter Berg, Patriots Day is an account of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing and the everyday heroes who inspired the world in the extraordinary hours that followed.

In the aftermath of an unspeakable act of terror, Police Sergeant Tommy Saunders (Mark Wahlberg) joins courageous survivors, first responders and investigators in a race against the clock to hunt down the bombers before they strike again.

Weaving together the stories of Special Agent Richard Deslauriers (Kevin Bacon), Police Commissioner ED DAVIS (John Goodman), Sergeant Jeffrey Pugliese (J.K. Simmons) and nurse Carol Saunders (Michelle Monaghan) this visceral and unflinching chronicle captures the suspense of the most sophisticated manhunt in law enforcement history and the strength of the people of Boston.

Patriots Day hits limited theaters in Boston, New York, and Los Angeles on December 21, and will get a wider release shortly after that.
